District Athletics

Last Wednesday a group of our amazing Atheltic students made their way to Herries park. This group of students represented SAS in Thames Valley Athletics. All athletes did us proud and we were very successful in all the relay races.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and huge congratulations to those who placed and who will go on to represent us in the Waikato Full Primary Athletics this Wednesday!

Middle School Meet!

Yesterday for two-thirds fo the day the middle syndicate came together to do some fun end of year activities. We practised singing our hearts out for our end of year performance assembly (it's in week 9 on Thursday 14th Dec come check it out!),  we took up a challenge that involved constructing a tower strong enough to hold a basketball off the ground and we played colour tag! A game that was learnt on middle school camp.

Check out these photos from the Basketball tower Challenge!

The Year 4 girls took the challenge out with a Tower standing above knee hight and nearly withstood our stamping earthquake!

2017 Districts Athletics

On Wednesday the 15th November, 79 of our top Athletic students represented our School in District Athletics.

Room 4 had several people representing SAS and they all performed well on the day!

It all got very competitive between the Schools, especially in the relays. SAS did great in all of them we only didn't place in one! Which is a great success!

We are very proud of all students who participated on Wednesday. It is going to be thrilling to hear about how Anna, Anna, Calauz, Daniel, Jessica Kahurangi and Trevor get on when they represented us once again at Thames Valley Athletics this coming Wednesday! Congratulations to you 7 on your fantastic achievements!

STUDENT LED SPORT!!

Over the past couple of weeks, Room 4 has been stepping up into the role of a teacher. In pairs or on their own students have been leading whole class fitness. This has involved them organizing the class and instructing them where to go, warming the class up, engaging them in 2 games or activities and then packing them up and instructing them back to class.

They have been absolutely incredible this week with lots of different activities being played. Today's instructor was Daniel and he did a fabulous job of organizing and instructing our team! ka pai Room 4!!!

120th AP&H Show in Te Aroha

Last weekend was Te Aroha's 120th AP&H show and each of the classrooms at school entered an art project. Our class entered into the Recyclable Materials category. We had free range on what we wanted to create, the only criteria were, it couldn't be bigger than a shoe box and had to be made entirely out of recyclable items.

We had people making, basketball hoops, pumpkins, monsters, shoes, a horse, sand timers and so much more!

On the day we had 3 winners! Anna and Anna took out 1st place with their cardboard horse, Teia took out 3rd along with Riley. Teia had created an awesome cat made from a drink bottle and Riley created a Halloween pumpkin out of a bottle and a snake from old wallpaper.

Congratulations you 3 on your wonderful creations!

Last term the whole middle/senior school were learning all about persuasive, inspirational and informative speeches. Last, Term on Tuesday the 12th of September it was the  Stanley Ave School speech finals. Anna Wade went through with her speech about Kiamaniwa horses and Jessica Bray went through with her speech about younger parents are better than older. They did really well and spoke with confidence. The best thing is they both made it through to the Rotary speech finals from.

Jessica Bray got 3rd, Anna Wade got 2nd and Rico Dare got 1st in year 6s. Everyone that went to the speech finals had a good speech and they were all very interesting with awesome facts and lots of humour.

STEM CHALLENGE

This week Room 4 was faced with the 'Basket Creator' challenge. With limited resources (1 paper plate, 1 piece of thick paper, tape and glue) they had to create a basket that would hold a cup of dice and counters.

Things we needed to remember were, work as a team, make sure nothing can fall out of our basket and don't touch other's projects!

Here is the challenge outline, our co-constructed marking criteria and the two materials we were given.

Even though we all used the same materials we each created something that was unique. We each used the materials in different ways yet we all achieved the brief.

Pablo Picasso inspired art!

Room 4 has been doing an artist study on Pablo Picasso. We have had our first go at a Picasso style portrait. They are currently on display in the office, so come in and check them out. Next, we are going to take our first try and improve it by adding more facial features and by creating it out of mixed media.

Healthy Eating with John Muir!

Over the past two weeks, Room 4 has been working with John Muir from Team energize. We have been looking at the four different food groups, what different foods do to our bodies and how much sugar is in the drinks we consume!

Room 4, has been exceptional at knowing what's in the food they eat. They were the first class ever, that John has taken to correctly order drinks based on their sugar content.

Here Room 4 are organising foods into the four food categories (Grain foods- make us Go, Meats and proteins- make us Grow, Fruit and Vege- make us Glow and Milk and milk products- make us Grow.)

They were then challenged to create a balanced meal using all 4 food groups with the correct portion.

Later, John worked with us to fine tune our running style and abilities in the lead up to our school cross country. Needless to say, running with incorrect form and style makes running look and feel ridiculous!
